The Media and Information Literacy and Intercultural Dialogue Foundation (MILID Foundation) will, on Thursday, hold a workshop for library users on media and information literacy.
The workshop, meant for library users in Abuja, Nigeria, will be held in collaboration with the National Library of Nigeria, FCT branch.
Themed “MIL101: Introduction to Media and Information,” the workshop will focus on introducing users of the FCT library to the basics of media and information literacy, including critical thinking and verification, among other things.
Speaking for MILID Foundation, the Executive Director, Chiamaka Okafor said, “the workshop aims to equip library users with essential skills in media and information literacy; helping them understand how to effectively access, analyse and evaluate critical information in today’s information-rich environment.”
She added that the programme is designed in a way that it accommodates both new and old learners.
“The ultimate goal of this intervention is to build a more media and information literate society one person at a time, especially in a rapidly evolving information ecosystem.”
Folasade Adepoju, Chief Librarian of the FCT Branch of the National Library underscored the importance of the workshop saying’ “With recent occurrences in the country, including the incident concerning two girls who lost their lives, points to the importance of critical thinking and safety on digital spaces which MIL teaches.”
